Junior Knights Tournament Report

Don Ikeno's Minor Peewee AA Green rolled into Detroit and took home the championship in the Big Bear Thunderbird Tournament on the weekend of Nov 3-5. They defeated the Royal Oak Eagles in the championship game 4 - 3, scoring with 4 seconds left after the Eagles had tied it up 30 seconds earlier. Coach Don Ikeno would like to congratulate the whole team on their hard work! On the weekend of Nov 3-5, the London Bantam AA-Green team coached by Mario Schembri were in the Streetsville tournament in Toronto. In round robin play the Bantam team went 2-1 finishing first in their division.They beat the North Buffalo Bisons 6-3 in the semis to advance to the finals. In the finals they defeated the host team Streetsville Tigers 3-2 in a well fought match.
October Tournaments
Green & Gold Highlights At the Green & Gold Invitational tournament the Midget AAA team coached by Chuck Dufton made it to the finals but lost 4-1 to Markham Majors. The Minor Midget AAA team coached by John Calderozzi lost in the semi-finals 3-2 to Mississauga Rebels. Triple 20 Shootout At the Triple 20's the Minor Bantam AA Gold team coached by Ben Lawton won a hard fought 5-4 battle over the Scarborough Bruins. Both teams were undefeated in the tournament and the game went to double overtime to decide the eventual winner.
In the Bantam Division the AA gold team coached by Kevin Gardner made it into the semifinals but lost 6-3 to the eventual tournament champs the Toronto Eagles. Jim Wimperis Minor Midget AA team defeated the Hamilton Reps 6-3 in the finals to secure the Minor Midget Division. In the semis the Hamilton Reps had played and defeated Cranks Midgets from Michigan in a game which featured 5 overtime periods. The 5 OT periods were the longest in JR Knight tournaments history and both teams deserve congratulations on playing such a tighly contested game. It was a great hockey game to watch. Congrats to all the Junior Knight teams with their recent success. |
